There really is nothing to making green papaya salad that is sweet, spicy, and so satisfying. I have tried a lot of recipes for green papaya salad in my days and many of them require oils, appliances, or a long list of ingredients. On my quest to find something simpler I decided to just throw caution to the wind and create my own papaya salad.
What I came up with is oil free and super tasty… all without the use of any electrical appliances or processed ingredients. In honor of such a simply recipe I’ll keep this blog post short and sweet. Here’s what you’ll need for 2 servings:
For the salad:
3 green papayas
½ red, yellow, or orange bell pepper
2 handfuls of your favorite greens (I use kale and greens from the garden)
For the sauce:
1 Tbsp nama shoyu or Braggs (this really is optional)
½ orange, juiced
1 small lemon or ½ big one, juiced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 Tsp fresh minced jalapeño or other favorite pepper
Just shred the papaya and carrots then chop the sweet pepper into small bite size pieces. Toss these ingredients in a bowl and set aside. In a separate, smaller bowl mix the sauce ingredients with a spoon until well integrated. Toss the papaya mixture with the sauce and let sit about 10 minutes before serving.
To serve, put some fresh greens on a plate and top the greens with the papaya salad. That is all there is to it!
