There is no doubt about it; eating breakfast is one of the most important things you can do for your body on a daily basis. Eating a healthy meal in the morning helps to fuel you for the day so you don’t have to deal with any slumps or mood swings because of blood sugar issues. But this does not mean that you have to go all out and spend half an hour preparing a meal for yourself.
What is important is that your morning meal is comprised of whole, healthy foods to help set the tone for the day. This is where good no-cook porridge comes into play! Although I thoroughly enjoy spending loads of time in my kitchen throughout the day, mornings are just about the only times when I would rather be outside enjoying the sunshine with the dogs, or taking a swim break at the beach.
Because of this, I tend to stay away from the kitchen by simply eating fruit or smoothies for breakfast. It takes mere seconds to grab fresh fruit on the way out the door and no more than five minutes to throw together a banana smoothie. But sometimes I am in the mood to sit at the kitchen table and indulge in something a little different, especially when it is raining outside!
So, I came up with what I think of as a fabulous no-cook porridge that is tasty, filling, and full of whole food goodness. The best part is that it doesn’t take more than 3 minutes to make… All you need are 3 or 4 ingredients and a food processor.
Here is the low down:
- 3 bananas, thickly sliced
- 1 pear, cut into a few chunks
- 1 stalk celery, cut into 1-inch chunks
- .5 tsp cinnamon
Place the pears and celery on the bottom of the food processor and pulse lightly to break the chunks up into small pieces, then place the bananas and cinnamon on top and process until combined into a porridge-like consistency. Pour the no-cook porridge into a bowl and enjoy with a fresh glass of lemon water!
